Chris Lythe 1915 Avon 4″ Aerial centrepin reel.

4” x 1⅛” centrepin reel № 106. In mint condition. Completed 18th April 2020.

£1,250.00

On his excellent website, master reel maker Chris Lythe says this is the favourite reel in his collection.

The spool has 12 spokes –six front and six at the rear, with a front rim ventilated with eight large holes. The V-check is controlled via a button on the back plate. All parts are nickel silver and brass. The spool and back plate are anodised slate grey.

It comes in its purpose made drawstring bag which is embroidered with the maker details, a second set of faux ivory handles and their brass fixing screws and its original signed certificate, care & maintenance guide and timeless guarantee.

The reel is in mint unused condition and of course, it spins without a scintilla of wayward movement, wobble or play. This is a superb example of Chris Lythe’s work in a thoroughly tried and tested format. If you had to restrict yourself to one classic centrepin, this would be a sound choice.

*Please note: On this reel, the check is operated via a sliding brass button on the back plate & is set up for left hand wind. However, as the difference in tension is very slight when retrieving or paying out line, this is no hindrance when winding with the right hand. The primary function of the check is to stop the spool rotating when the reel is not in use.
