Chris Yates ‘The Bishop SU’ 11′ 2-piece stepped up carp rod.

Made in 2010, this rod's like the Duke of Wellington- it can take on the French and win!

£1,800.00

My dear friend Jeff fishes in France with his son James. They like a lake with chunky Gallic carp in it. James also likes catfish. He’s undergone special training in order to combat these monsters. I should think a Webley service revolver would do the trick, if he uses the blunt end.

Carbon rods are the wise choice for most, but Jeff likes cane. He’s committed to the stuff. Won’t budge. He commissioned a stepped up version of our Chris Yates Bishop for his French campaigns. Then he decided he wanted a matched pair. We sold the original singleton for him -this rod.

It’s not been fished much and as you can see from the accompanying pictures, it’s in near mint condition. I had to remove a personalised inscription from it and as is my usual practice, I over-varnished the rod afterwards in order to harmonise the finish.

The rod’s action is progressive and smooth. The tip is strong enough not to collapse when it’s swinging out heavier loads and the butt has great lifting power. This is a modern carp rod hand built in the classic way. Its test curve is about 2½ lbs. You can safely use it with 15 lb line. It’s capable of landing any carp that swims. Jeff uses his pair to prove my point. The specification of his rods is identical to this one’s.

Jeff also goes by the name of Polycarp. We’re both members of the Golden Scale Club. Nobody knows what’s in the violin case Jeff takes to meetings but there’s always a faint whiff of cordite on his gloves.

Specification.

11′ 2-piece blank made from extra-select Tonkin bamboo, flame tempered, grain split, straightened and its nodes pressed by hand. The sections were made to the strictest tolerances of +/- one thousandth of an inch.

The perfectly fitted waterproof, reinforced, splint end, suction ferrule is blued & lacquered. It has a hand turned Olive wood & cork stopper.

The 27″ cork handle has an elongated ‘onion’ shaped top. The nickel silver sliding reel bands and butt cap are finely knurled and engraved with the maker’s mark.

The rings are generous hard chrome plated stainless steel bridge pattern. The Amberfin butt ring is braced for extra strength and the matching tip ring is Amberfin.

Whippings are varnish impregnated Pearsall’s shade 18 bottle green silk with very fine crimson tippings. The graduated intermediate whippings are in matching green silk.

The finish is hand applied marine grade gloss varnish.

The rod comes in its tailor made bag.

This is a lot of rod for the money.
