Unlike Jack Carter, I can’t wave a shooter about to make a point but take a look at this reel’s particulars. I think you’ll find me quite persuasive.
The № 50 Bernard Venables Aerial made by Richard Carter.
43 of these reels were made. I know, this one’s № 50. How so?
It was made for Martin James and he wanted his with № 50 on it.
Martin was a famous angling writer and broadcaster. Perhaps he still is.
When Bernard died, production ceased.
This reel is about as rare, beautiful and functional as a centrepin can be without actually being made from Catherine Deneuve.
Wizards are so on trend aren’t they.
We made this Wallis Wizard as a special order in 1996. It’s a properly good fishing rod and so utterly lovely I find it baffling that I haven’t bought it myself. After you Sir!
We have some other very choice items to show the quality down from the Smoke and gentlemen from the provinces.
A pair -yes a pair- of Richard Walker stepped-up MK IV carp rods, a mint Chris Yates Barbus Maximus MKII & a Chris Yates Merlin -there I go again with my wizard allusions- and the
№ 8 Barder Rod Co 25th anniversary limited edition Kenneth Perfection.
Look, the economy is growing, the holidays are over and we’ve got a Prime Minister who isn’t a complete nitwit. It’s all right to treat yourself to some fine hand made fishing tackle. Don’t be coy.
Here’s Bernard Venables at a Golden Scale Club AGM about twenty five years ago. I’m back left in the white-ish trousers, Richard Carter is the tallest person in the shot, the blond lad once lodged a teapot full of Krugerrands in the crown of a tree somewhere in the West Country and one of the others goes by the name of Max The Pugilist. Bit like Chris Eubank, but fatter.
Have a lovely weekend.
