An exceptional near mint example of the highly desirable model 4108A-T1

Apart from a hint of age related patina, this beautiful reel is in mint condition. Its Xylonite handles and solid nickel sliver line pins suggest that it was made in the mid-to-late 1920s. Production of this model ran from 1905 to 1928.
Not only is it in fabulous condition, it also has an original and extremely rare factory fitted ‘rolling eye’ line guard. This line guard was patented by the Birmingham tackle maker Reuben Heaton.
Condition report.
The mahogany back retains its original age-patinated French polish finish. It is true and sound.
The hand fettled sand cast star back is in original condition with some patina and the foot is straight and unaltered.
The spool’s ebonite flanges are in perfect order. The solid nickel silver line pins are tight and straight. The clean Xylonite handles have minimal crazing. They are straight and turn freely.
The spool spins sweetly and absolutely truly with no play in the spindle/bush and the grub screw that controls end float turns freely. The spool hub retains its original lacquered finish. The nickel sliver spokes are clean and perfectly straight. The tension adjuster and spool release work perfectly.
The spool’s width between flanges is ⅞”
The calliper check is crisp and easily operated via its finely knurled and untarnished brass button (located upper left on the reel’s back).
If your collection lacks a really exquisite small Coxon, this is the one to fill the gap.
