Barder Rod Co 25th anniversary fly rod № 7 c2018.

A superb and very rare 8¼' #5-weight 3-piece 2-top fly rod and its hand stitched English bridle leather case.

We made 13 of these rods to celebrate 25 years of the Barder Rod Co. Only used a couple of times and in virtually mint condition, this is the first one we’ve offered for sale since they were completed in 2018.

In order to demonstrate our rod making techniques we incorporated a number of special materials in the building of these rods. They were three years in the planning stage -I’m not known for rushing things, and to this day I fish happily with the prototype.

Each rod was issued with an individually numbered and signed hand bound booklet that was designed to be re-inscribed with a change of ownership.

The reel seat and handle metalwork are finely knurled titanium. The butt rings are highly figured Brazilian agate in nickel sliver mounts. The rods have perfectly graduated intermediate whippings of the finest silk imaginable. They are the only rods in this format that we’ve made at 8’3″ and each rod is numbered.

Unlike the infamous Perth Pink (see Monty Python’s Australian Table Wines sketch), a wine not for drinking but for laying down and avoiding, this rod is going to improve with use and exposure to the elements. Intermediate whippings require an extra coat of varnish and as this cures and hardens with age, the rod’s smooth progressive action will speed up and increase in crispness. Mine has, which is why I’m telling you this. It’s something  to look forward to!

I know that you are sensitive to the vulgarities of investment potential and heirloom quality but even so, this is a superb fishing rod with plenty of both.
