CTS of New Zealand are the masters of fibreglass blank making. This is not the vague soggy stuff, but the smooth, strong, precise kind -or we wouldn’t be building rods with it.
Like it’s 7′ #3-weight little brother, this rod is slender, light and robust. It casts remarkably precisely, its handling is fluid and graceful. It looks gorgeous and you can almost smell the basil fields of Liguria after a summer shower as you draw it from its tube.
With a little more reach and power than the seven footer, this rod, with its typical fibreglass robustness, is just the thing for the West Dart or any wild stream where a wading staff is essential and the trout are frisky.
The blank is built from CTS’s peerless unidirectional S-glass, finished in a dull gloss translucent basil pesto colour.
The Flor grade handle is made from hand-cut ¼” corks. The reel seat has a highly figured olive wood spacer with blued nickel silver butt cap, sliding band, grip check and shoulder collar.
Guides and tip-top are Snake Brand fine wire with a black nickel finish over hard chrome. The butt ring is nickel silver with a beautifully marked Brazilian agate centre.
Silks are perfectly transparent varnish impregnated Pearsall’s Gossamer with ultra-fine dark green tippings. The joints have olive wood and carbon fibre stoppers.
The rod comes in a tailor made bag with an integral stiffener, and a superb Barder aluminium tube.
