Barder Rod Co 8′ #5-weight 2-piece 2-top fly rod & leather case. c2011
Lawn cast only and un-fished. A rare opportunity to obtain a classic rod.

Oh goodness, I’d almost forgotten how satisfying the 8′ 2-piece #5-weight is, when made in Newbury.
We don’t see them much these days because 100% of our orders are for 3-piece rods, which we love dearly. I blame the ubiquity of the 4-piece carbon fibre rod for this. Fifteen or more years ago it was the other way round.
The thing is, this two piece rod is smooth casting, light and uncluttered. Not for nothing was the 8′ #5-weight regarded as the quintessential split cane fly rod for chalk streams (other types of river are available) when I was growing up.
Rather than wittering on, I’ll leave you with one of my more strident thoughts:
You’ve been thinking about a fine split cane fly rod for some time, or perhaps want to expand your existing rod rack. Life’s cheering up and you’ve got a few quid to spare since you cancelled that skiing holiday. I challenge you to find a better cane rod than this one. It’s unused, available, costs less than a new one (slightly, because I’m a softy) and there’s no wait.
You’d be mad not to.
