We made 13 of these extra special rods to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our company.
This was the first rod I made commercially and it was the purchase of one of them by Colin Whitehouse that was the catalyst for our rod making partnership.
Historically, the best rods of this type were made by Oliver’s of Knebworth, and it was from them that I bought the planing form on which his first Kennet Perfections were made.
The true Kennet Perfection action is progressively all-through, so that the top half of the tip section is flexible but strong. The lower half of the top and top half of the middle flex steadily into the reserve power of the lower mid-section. It’s a versatile rod for 4 – 8 lbs line and its generous length and limber action make it a fine float and ledger rod for roach, perch, tench, chub and barbel.
Specification.
Two 56” sections of split cane and a detachable 25” split cane handle.
The handle top has our practical & elegant ‘onion’ shape and the ferrule mouth-cum-shoulder collar is nickel silver. For lightness, the butt cap and sliding reel bands are made from high grade alloy.
Ferrules are our own waterproof nickel silver splint end suction pattern with a blued & lacquered finish.
Ferrule stoppers are turned from highly figured Olive wood to the classic shape.
The hook keeper ring is secured by a hand-forged nickel silver strap.
Intermediate rings are hard chrome plated ‘High Bells’ stand-off, with ‘Amberfin’ lined butt & tip rings.
Ring and ferrule whippings are translucent bottle green ‘Elephant Brand’ silk specially acquired and reserved for these rods, with fine red tippings. The graduated intermediates are tied using matching green silk of the finest possible grade.
The rod is inscribed with the maker’s details, its number (10) and the year 2015.
The impeccable finish is very best yacht varnish.
The rod comes in a traditional made to measure khaki cloth bag and a screw capped aluminium tube of our own make.
A specially printed hand-bound signed and numbered owner’s booklet will be issued with the rod.
