This is a superb example of S. E. Bogdan’s famous model 00 grilse reel. When one looks for a classic reel for light salmon, steel head and sea trout, two makes come to mind -Hardy and Bogdan. The late Stan Bogdan’s reels are very much the connoisseur’s choice on both sides of the Atlantic.
The reel has a 3¼” diameter and a 1⅛” wide spool. The perforated spool and back plate are anodised black (the specks you can see are lint from the suede pouch) and the frame is champagne silver anodised. The spool and reel foot are silver.
The drag tension is controlled via the lever on the back plate and there is a knob one turns in order to change the ratchet from click to silent.
This is a very sophisticated right hand wind direct drive reel.
The reel weighs 8¼ oz and holds a WF#7 line + 75 yards of backing.
It has its suede pouch and original hand written Bogdan hang tag.
Bogdan reels are increasingly sought after (Stan Bogdan died in 2011).
