Chris Lythe ‘Roach’ Aerial centrepin reel. Made in 2019.

With its spare spool, this mint condition reel comes in a beautiful marquetry case made by Chris Lythe.

£2,000.00

This reel was made for a gentleman for whom we made a number of rods. He was a great connoisseur of fine fishing tackle who commissioned the very best pieces from Chris Lythe and ourselves. It is unused and remains in mint, as-new condition.

As you can see from the accompanying pictures, the reel and its extra spool come in a very lovely baize-lined marquetry case made by Chris Lythe. This is the first Lythe reel I have handled with such a case and I believe they are extremely rare.

The reel’s spools are 4″ diameter x ⅞” wide. The Roach designation suggests that this is a light reel, which it is. However, because Chris Lythe’s reels are so well engineered, you would be perfectly safe to use it for a wide variety of fishing.

The reel is finished in Chris’s Eclipse style. The back is anodised slate grey. The spools are hand polished natural aluminium. The contrast is subtle and attractive. With its amber handles, it’s one of the loveliest centrepins I’ve ever seen.

The button operated check has neutral tension so the reel can be used either left or right hand wind.

The line pins, spokes and handle spindles are nickel silver. The foot, check button and associated screws are brass. The spool’s hub is phosphor-bronze. The spindle is tool steel and the check wheel and pawl are case-hardened steel.

The assembled reel weighs 242g (8.5oz). The spools weigh 116g (4.2oz) each. The spare spool has a push fit hub/check wheel protector. The brass foot is stamped 18.

The reel comes with its original certificate of ownership dated 26th October 2019.
