Chris Yates’s № 1 Barbus Maximus MK II 2-piece 11’ barbel rod c2002.
Chris approved this second version of the Barbus Maximus wholeheartedly, especially after he’d christened it with a ten pounder! It featured in his articles in various publications and it became his regular barbel rod. He used it to land his largest ever barbel, a fish of nearly fourteen pounds from the Hampshire Avon.
The rod remains straight and true and it has the attractive patina of honest use. The cork handle is, understandably, somewhat soiled but the cork itself, the finest grade available, is sound.
The rod has its original cloth bag and it comes with a letter of provenance from Chris, written on Golden Scale Club headed paper.
