£2,500.00

This rod was commissioned in January 2001 and completed in June of that year, just before the arrival of our roller stamp, hence the maker’s Indian ink inscription.

The rod was made on our very slightly modified version of the legendary Garrison 212E taper. It weighs exactly 4.6 ounces, which is very light indeed for a rod with a significantly swelled butt and nickel silver reel seat components.

The Garrison 212E is a very well proven and durable design. It was developed during the silk fly line era (silk lines don’t stretch) so it is quite a smooth action and not super-fast, but easy to get on with, reliable and of course, superb when paired with a silk line. My favourite is the Terenzio Revolution. I first saw one when we were exhibiting in Milan last year (know many other rod makers who can say that? Bit flash aren’t we). Tina bought it for me for Christmas. It’s now officially one of the precious things of the house.

I used our four weight version of this rod for many years before selling it to my friend Tim. Sometimes, he says he feels like my private porn broker. It’s  all right now Tim, those days are behind me.

The four weight was perfect on calm days with smaller flies. Much of the time, fishing around Salisbury on the Avon, Wylye and Bourne, I would have been completely happy with this #5-weight. It was windy. There were mayflies. I think you’d like this rod very much and I would be mortified if you could find a split cane rod that was made much better.

Here is its specification.

Precision made split cane. Modified Garrison 212E taper with a pronounced swelled butt, which has the effect of shortening and speeding up the rod’s action.

Made from very high quality Tonkin bamboo, flame tempered, hand split with pressed nodes. A pair of identical tips, numbered 1 & 2.

Barder Rod Co nickel sliver Super-Z ferrules, oxidised and lacquered. Yew wood stopper.
