The № 11 Chris Yates Merlin c1995.

A classic Merlin in superb condition.

£1,600.00

This is a super early Merlin, with special order nickel silver handle fittings. It’s the eleventh example of a model that we still make, and it hasn’t changed much since we first introduced it. I think it now qualifies as a classic.

Beautifully balanced and versatile, I’m tempted to say that this is the best Avon-style rod of all, but boastfulness is such an unattractive trait.

Very attractively priced, elegantly appointed and still in its prime -well, it would be a shame not to treat yourself. It would make a very nice companion for the 1995 Barbus Maximus we are offering. Same vintage, same finish. What a lovely pair they’d make.

The split cane -hollow built butt, solid built tip- was precision made from flame tempered, hand split and straightened vintage Tonkin bamboo. The flawlessly finished shafts glow with warm dark honey tones. The rod is perfectly straight and full of energy.

The blued and lacquered ferrule is a Beatson’s of Sheffield splint end suction pattern, retaining a superb fit. It is fitted with hand turned hardwood and cork stopper.

Rings are hard chrome plated stainless steel stand off, with Amberfin butt and tip rings.A  hook keeper ring is mounted above the handle.

Whippings are double tipped (in the style of Pezon et Michel) Burgundy silk.

The hand applied marine grade varnish finish is impeccable.

The 26″ cork handle has an elongated onion handle top, nickel sliver butt cap with rubber button and delicately knurled nickel silver reel bands.

The rod comes in its tailor made bag with press stud fastenings and a pocket in the flap for the ferrule stopper.
