This rod is in very close to mint condition -about 99%. I don’t think it has been used to any extent since it was made in 1996.
The split cane was hand made from flamed tempered, hand straightened vintage Tonkin bamboo. The butt section is slightly hollow-built -enough to save some weight but not so much that the strength is compromised. Both sections are perfectly straight.
The handle is absolutely clean and fitted with finely knurled nickel silver reel bands and a butt cap of our own make. The ferrule was made by us too. It’s a very nice, firm fit and has its original hand-turned stopper.
The stand-off rings are all hard chrome plated and the butt and tip rings have aluminium oxide centres. The whippings are varnish-impregnated Pearsall’s bottle green silk with fine red tippings.
The rod comes in its original bag which has a pocket in the flap for the ferrule stopper and it has press stud fastenings.
It is suitable for 3 -6 lb reel lines.
A classic all round Avon style rod. If you had to have one split cane all rounder, this would be a wise choice.
