Stonking.
From the OED- Adjective. Informal. British. Used to emphasize something impressive, exciting, or very large.
I bet people tell you you’re stonking all the time. I’ve got to say, the new Kingpin Zephyr Aero Centrepin reel is an absolute stonker too. Its looks are refined and tasteful. The precision of its construction is astonishing. The price? Well, you’re in for a pleasant surprise.
You’ll remember the Barder Rod Co Centrepin reel. We designed them here and they were made for us by Kingpin. New: £800. They change hands now for £1,500.
Sometimes, we’ve wondered about producing a few more, perhaps with some subtle differences. We thought about perforations. Who doesn’t?
Out of the blue –well, out of Poole in Dorset, Stuart Ward of Kingpin called. ‘Fancy taking a look at a new reel we’ve made? It’s rather like the one we made for you. If you like it, you could offer some to your admirers. I know that their devotion to you verges on the fanatical.’
You know me. I won’t get involved with anything that’s less than exceptionally good. As for fanatical devotion, I’m still waiting.

Another Zephyr.
Late in August 1965, my mother was busy in Wokingham Hospital, delivering me into the world. Some years ago, I asked my father if he’d been present at my birth. He scoffed, assuring me that in those days (it was a long time ago) fathers didn’t involve themselves in the frightful beastliness of childbirth. ‘I was with your grandfather at Ruscombe’ he told me ‘admiring his new Ford Zephyr.’ And there, the subject was closed.
I was less important than a Ford Zephyr in 1965 and I am as nothing in the presence of the Kingpin Zephyr Aero centrepin. Buy one and see for yourself.
